Natural Split/Cleft: For traditional roofing or flooring slates, split along the grain.

Polished: Traditional polish to give a smooth, gloss surface. Edges cut straight and even.

Honed: The surface is honed flat and smooth. The edges are cut sharp and straight to give a uniform finish with tight joints.

Tumbled or Aged: Is literally that. Softened, uneven edges and un-polished, un-filled surface gives a 'soft' rustic finish.

Brushed and Chiselled Edge: Open grained but brushed to give a semi-polished surface. Edges are chiselled to give a rustic finish.
